Sergio Mendes Eddie Nichols, vocals, Mando Dorame, tenor sax, Scott Steen, trumpet, Veikko Lepisto, bass, Daniel Glass, drums, Greg Erba, guitar, and multi-reed wizard Jim Jedeikin, collectively known as Royal Crown Revue, recently visited the Palapa Lounge at the Palms.

The band played an instrumental number that had the crowd swing dancing instantly. Lead vocalist Eddie Nichols came out next and did Las Vegan Sam Butera's version of "Fever." This song was a highlight in a set packed with highlights.

"Whatcha Doin'Tonight" and "Stormy Weather" kept the packed room happy. An instrumental that I think was called "Goof" gave Eddie Nichols a well deserved rest. "Walking Like Brando," a song about trying to act like your heroes, brought fond memories back to the fans.

"Who's Out There" kept the crowd happy and dancing. "Honey Child" was played before a swinging version of Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas." This song and show proved once and for all that swing is alive and well, thanks to bands like Royal Crown Revue.
