Walter Trout made his second trip to the Railhead this year, and I believe his performance was even better than the first time. Keyboard player Bill Mason's addition to the band, the Radicals, has resulted in a fuller sound. Instead of having to do solo after solo, Walter now has someone to help him out while the rhythm section keeps the band on course.
The Reason I'm Gone, Sweet As A Flower, and Bob Dylan's I Shall Be Released sounded better than when Walter was here in January. His new songs, Gotta Leave This Town, Ride 'Till I'm Satisfied, and the funny I Don't Want My MTV make you want the next CD. It may be his best one yet.
Bassist Jimmy Trapp and drummer Bernie Pershey kept Bill Mason and Walter grounded in a heavy beat and gave them the freedom needed to put on a terrific show. The band's new disc, Go The Distance, will be out May 22.
