The first time I saw Duke Robillard and his band, it was a fun and entertaining night. This time at the Railhead in Las Vegas, it just wasn't the same.
Maybe it was the material that slowed the set to a crawl. It did include T-Bone Walker's "Glamour Girl" and the set closer "I May Be Ugly, But I Sure Know How To Cook," but the last show, people were dancing and having a good time. This time, no one was dancing during the set.
The band itself is a talented bunch that includes Mark Teixeria drums, John Packer bass, Doug James sax, Matt McCabe keys, and Duke vocals and guitar. Could this show have been not up to par because the guys were a little road weary? If they keep the opening set filled with slow, plodding arrangements like this show, it will be a shame. The next time, I expect them to put on a much better performance.
