Larry McCray, along with his brother drummer Steve McCray, and bassist Johnny B. Gayden, came to the Railhead at Boulder Station. Opening with "BLUES IS MY BUSINESS AND BUSINESS IS GOOD", it seemd to be a good start to a good night of music. Instead, what we received was guitar solo after guitar solo.
Yes, there were some highlights, like the first song, and "SOMEBODY'S WATCHING OVER ME AND YOU", but on the whole, the first set was reduced to a series of extended guitar solos. It was Larry McCray's show, and it didn't offer the other men much time to shine.
The first set was enough to convince me that Larry could play guitar, but there was so much more that he and his band could have done. Maybe they did it in the second set, but by then I was long gone. Better luck next time.
