and the Shuffle Kings

After just a few songs Bugs Henderson said "After tonight you'll hate guitar music. Except mine." His selection of material for the first set was poor. The old Hank Williams's standard "Oh Lonesome Me", now treated as a slow blues shuffle, "Same Old", and "Standing On Shaky Ground" were the only vocals.
Bugs Henderson played instrumental after instrumental, including a Beatles medley. The only things the songs had in common were Bugs' guitar solos. Seemingly, the Shuffle Kings slept through the first set. In fact, Santos and Johnny's "Sleep Walk" crept into one of the solos. Bugs should have given his band a chance to shine. Instead, bassman Keith Jones and Bugs' son, drummer Buddy Henderson, looked like they were bored.
Bugs was right about one thing. That after the first set I was sick of guitar solos. But not everybody's - just his. Needless to say, I didn't stick around for the second set.
