Tinsley Ellis and his band, Scott Callison drums, Phil Zone bass, and Kenny Kilgore guitar, made a stop at Club Madrid in Sunset Station. The band was ready, and it didn't take long for them to hit their stride. By the second song, "DIGGIN' MY OWN GRAVE", they were tearing the place up. "CUT YOU LOOSE" and "HEARTFIXER" only turned up the heat. "THE NEXT MISS WRONG" and "I'LL BE LOVING YOU" showcased the individual talents of this group.
The guitar interplay between Kenny Kilgore and Tinsley Ellis on "HELL OR HIGH WATER", the title song off Tinsley's latest CD, was worth the trip. "I FEEL SO BAD" featured fine rhythm work by Phil Zone and Scott Callison. Tinsley's concert staples were next, "TO THE DEVIL FOR A DIME" and "A QUITTER NEVER WINS". During the latter song, Tinsley broke his guitar string, so you knew the end of the set was near.
The band finished the set with a great jam, again highlighting the individual talents of this band. Now that the set was over, it was time for me to go home and pack for the Doheny Blues Festival.
