Bruce Conte From the heyday of Tower of Power, 1972-1979, Bruce Conte has set himself apart from most guitarists. Known mostly for his jazz and funk playing, Bruce has now tackled the blues on his most recent CD, RHYTHM MEETS THE BLUES. His blues CD is what brings Bruce to the Railhead on blues night.

Bruce and his band played it all throughout the evening. They opened with the jazzy "SNATCH IT BACK", then went into the Elmore James blues classic "THE SKY IS CRYING". Bruce then brought out female singer Asia Kim to help out. Asia sang "ROUTE 66", then the Staples Singers "I'LL TAKE YOU THERE."

Asia Kim and Bruce duetted on Ike & Tina Turner's "OOH POO PAH DOO" before Bruce launched into an inspired version of Tower of Powers' "CAN'T CUT LOOSE", and a note perfect copy of Santana's "EUROPA". Bruce and his band then went into Albert King's "CROSSCUT SAW", then Bruce's instrumental "DEBRA" before ending his fine set with Aretha Franklin's "THINK" to a receptive crowd.
