It is always special to see a legend like BB King. His shows are even better when he plays before the home crowd filled with friends and family. That's why seeing BB at the House of Blues in Las Vegas is a ritual for some fans.
BB's band took the stage, and this band includes a few Las Vegas residents. One of the most visible is guitarist Charlie Dennis, who's been on the Las Vegas scene for years. King was introduced and they went into "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL", and roll they did. The band roared through classic after classic. "IN MY LIFETIME", "CALEDONIA" and "EARLY IN THE MORNING" showed the awesome stage power of these men.
"HOW BLUE CAN YOU GET" always delights BB's fans. "KEY TO THE HIGHWAY" lead into two of King's most famous tunes, "ROCK ME BABY" and his signature song "THE THRILL IS GONE". "I KNOW (YOU DON'T LOVE ME NO MORE)" and the Christmas standard "PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS" left time for the band to be introduced. Charlie Dennis guitar, James Toney keyboards, Reggie Richards bass, Caleb Winfried drums, Melvin Jackson and nephew Walter King sax, and Stanley Abernathy and Boogoloo trumpet. BB and his band finished with a song of wisdom, "MAKIN' LOVE IS GOOD FOR YOU", to end the show. Not bad for a 77 year old blues legend.
